In this workshop we will look at the management of problems that arise in dealing with memory loss that are not treated with medications by discussing several clinical cases. We will cover the spectrum from Mild Cognitive Impairment to advanced dementia. Topics to be covered include prevention and delay of progression of cognitive deficits, legal issues, management of difficult behaviours non responsive to medication, support and education of caregivers, and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on dementia care.

 

Objectives

As a result of attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Be able to guide dementia caregivers to community support and resources
  • Feel more comfortable counseling caregivers as to how to deal with behavior problems in dementia 
  • Be able to make recommendations to their patients on how to prevent or delay dementia
